Welcome!

Hey all,

So this is the start of our journey. As many of you may know already, Lorna and I are starting the adoption process. After many months of research, we've picked out an agency and program. Now comes the fun part...

The adoption process is a long and hard one. This blog will keep you updated on everything we're going through as well as intermittently providing information we pick up along the way on adoption generally.  We hope you enjoy watching us bumble our way through a complicated, emotional, and (ideally) joyful process.

Our program, like most others, will cost somewhere in the ball park of $30,000. Around $13,000 of this will be refunded to us after finalizing the adoption in tax credits. And it sounds like my job will be putting up some of the money on the back end (fingers crossed), but in any case we'll need to come up with everything up front. And hence, our brand-new fundraising blog!

Couple of things (hopefully) coming soon:
  • A way to administer small loans: I'd like to have a system set up where we could put together small loans if people would be willing to do that. As about half of our costs will be refunded after the adoption has been finalized, I'd be happy to draft up the necessary paperwork for loans to be paid back then if people are interested. Being the analyst that I am, I've already figured out a structure that I think would make sense. Let me know your thoughts.
  • A detailed funds tracker: I'd like to have a way to show you our progress towards our goal, whether in aggregate or broken out by different costs. But I'm not sure if I'm quite that savvy yet.
As you can see, we also have a donation button where you can slip us a couple bucks if you're in the mood to help get us to our goal. Every little bit helps, so don't feel bashful about paying $5. We'll still send you an enthusiastic thank-you e-mail. And if you can't donate, no worries. Just showing up means a lot.

In any case, here goes. We'll do our best to get a post up at least once a week.

Thanks for all your love and support,
Josh
